Police say they have suspect in slaying of Indiana veteran

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Authorities in northern Indiana say they have a suspect in the January slaying of an Afghanistan war veteran from South Bend.

Commander Tim Corbett of the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit says the suspect is already in custody at the county jail on unrelated charges.

He would not identify the suspect or say what those unrelated charges were. The South Bend Tribune reports that the case has not yet been turned over to prosecutors for possible charges.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jodie Henderson Jr. was found dead on Jan. 16 in a South Bend street.

The county coroner ruled in February that he died primarily of blunt-force injuries. Possible contributing factors included alcohol intoxication and exposure to the cold.

Henderson was a member of the Army National Guard.
