Rep. DeLaney says Howell case points to need for new gun laws
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – State Representative Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) says Indiana needs tougher gun laws.
Democratic State Representative Ed DeLaney spoke at the statehouse Tuesday morning and said Indiana needs tougher gun laws. He said he doesn’t think leaders in Washington are doing enough to regulate military-grade weapons and the state should take the lead.
He said the arrest of James Howell, who traveled from Indiana to California with an arsenal of weapons, demonstrates a number of flaws in Indiana and how it’s enforced.
DeLaney said it’s because of politicians who fear the NRA.
“80 percent of the American people believe that we should restrict automatic weapons, basically preclude them, get rid of military type weapons in civilian hands, ok? We should have universal background checks and restrict these large ammuniction clips. That’s 80 percent. A majority of the NRA members say that,” DeLaney said.
DeLaney also said that local authorities should be forced to share more information regarding gun arrest with State Police.
