Southern Indiana rooting for former coach Bruce Pearl

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Bruce Pearl took Evansville by storm back in the mid-90s. Pearl spent 9 seasons at USI and led the Screaming Eagles to the 1995 DII National Championship.

Now, he has Auburn 2 wins away from another National Championship.

USI Sports Information Director Ray Simmons says he isn’t surprised to see Pearl in the Final Four.

“Bruce has that ability to coach, and he has the ability to get the most out of his players. He knows how to get them to dig down to get just that little extra to put them over the top,” Simmons said.

Pearl and Auburn will play Virginia Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.
