St. Patrick’s Day celebration continues in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – About 2,200 people dressed in green Saturday morning and ran either four miles or two miles for the 25th annual Shamrock Run and Walk.

The course took participants from Monument Circle to Fountain Square, home of the Irish Hill, and back to Monument Circle.

When the first group of runners took off at 10:00 a.m.,the official temperature was 59 degrees, but that didn’t seem to slow down the runners.

The first place runner finished the four mile course in just over 20 minutes, that’s a pace of about five minutes per mile.

After the run and walk it was time to Shamrockin’ the Circle, a community party held on Monument Circle.

The free event featured Riley Band from Milwaukee, WI, and there were lots of food and of course, green beer. The Columbia Club was also open to the public.

Irishman Bob Welch, president of IAC Sports Foundation, described Saturday’s activities as a great family event.

Welch mentioned that the St. Patrick’s Day events, including the greening of the canal, the parade, and the run and walk were all sponsored by IAC Sports Foundation.

Welch went on to say about $25,000 is raised from the events and the organization uses the money to help local youth athletic groups.
