Star Wars characters visit patients at Riley Hospital for Children

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Patients at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health had special visitors on Friday.

Members of the group Star Wars Indiana dressed up in costume and spent time with kids at the hospital.

Children were able to forget about being sick while taking part in “jedi-inspired lightsaber training.” They also got to play with Star Wars toys and take pictures with the characters.

One mother said she has been in and out of the hospital with her son for almost two years because he has leukemia. She said it was nice to see a smile on his face Friday.

“He loves superheroes so when the lady told him that they are having Star Wars at the place he was so happy he wanted to come,” said the mother.

“Being able to put on our Star Wars costumes and being able to give back to the community and doing various charity functions, that’s what we do,” said Matt Hofmann with Star Wars Indiana.

This is the second time the group has visited kids at Riley.
