Tippecanoe County man dies in crash on SR 26

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Colfax man lost his life after two vehicles collided on State Road 26 Monday evening.

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of SR 26 and County Road 900 East.

Deputies say a pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Theodore Hicks was traveling west on SR 26 when it collided with a passenger car. The two vehicles ended up in a ditch, completely off the roadway.

Investigators determined the car’s driver, 63-year-old Marti Farrell of Colfax, had failed to yield to east and westbound traffic.

Farrell, along with 43-year-old Marion Wright and a 9 year-old passenger, were taken to the hospital.

Wright was flown to Fort Wayne to receive treatment but he died as a result of his injuries. The 9-year-old girl was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for further treatment. Farrell was treated and released from St. Elizabeth.

Deputies said the child was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained “severe lower extremity injuries.”

The driver of the truck was not injured, but was taken in for a standard blood test. As of late Monday night, investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

SR 26 was closed for about an hour. CR 900 East was closed for longer while tow trucks removed the vehicles from the ditch.
