Tips for getting your tree limbs and debris removed

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — If you have limbs down and other debris from the storm in your yard, there is a right way to have them removed.

24-Hour News 8 talked with the Department of Public Works and here’s the info they offered:

  • Residents need to call even if it’s a small bundle or a few pieces. Solid Waste is not responsible for debris pick-up, which is why we are encouraging our residents to call the Mayor’s Action Center at 327-4MAC to have them picked up.
  • Yes, residents can make their requests online or by phone 317-327-4MAC or online.
  • If a resident has a 96 gallon cart, they can place those into their cart if they are just a few small pieces. Otherwise, if they’d like them removed, they need to call the Mayor’s Action Center.
  • Debris can be separated, but it must be bundled, next to the trash can.
  • Limbs fall under “debris.”
  • If a tree falls on a resident’s property, they will need to call a tree service to remove that tree.
  • There is no limit to the amount of debris a resident can send out.
  • The collection site for debris is the Green Cycle Facility.
  • Timing on pick up depends on the next storm. We take care of thoroughfare streets first, and after the last storm, residents can expect up to 48 hours before their debris is picked up.
  • Debris will not be handled with trash. In order for residents to have debris removed, they need to call the Mayor’s Action Center.
  • Debris removal is provided as a service to residents by the city free of charge.
