Water main breaks close Indy intersections
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Two water main breaks – one on Indianapolis’ south side and the other on the east side – hampered Tuesday morning traffic, officials said.
According to a spokesperson for Citizens Energy Group, the first was on the south side, on Banta Road. Officials said shortly after 6 a.m. the road was closed from US 31 to Brill Road because of the break. The cause is likely due to aging infrastructure, as the water main was installed in 1957. According to Citizens, that closure would be in place until about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The second water main break happened on the east side, on East 21st Street. Officials said the road would be down to one lane from Emerson Avenue to Hawthorne Lane until around 1 p.m. Tuesday. This break, too, is likely due to aging infrastructure. The main was installed in 1941.
