April 3-4, 1974: During an event known as the ‘Super Tornado Outbreak’, the second largest outbreak in history, a total of 148 tornadoes touched down across the country over a 24-hour period. In Indiana, 21 tornadoes touched down killing 47 people. According to the National Weather Service some of the tornadoes in Indiana that day were moving as fast as a mile per minute.
