2015 Mr. Basketball chooses Michigan State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — Just days after being named the 2015 Mr. Indiana Basketball, Homestead forward Caleb Swanigan has committed to play next year at Michigan State.

The 6-9 senior led Homestead to the 4A State Championship at Bankers Life Fieldhouse last month and was a target of both Indiana and Purdue.

The Boilermakers seemed to be one of the front-runners in his recruitment, along with California, Arizona, and Kentucky.

Swanigan’s decision marks the fourth year in a row that the Mr. Indiana Basketball winner has left the state to play.

Gary Harris, Zac Irvin, and Trey Lyles went to MSU, Michigan and Kentucky respectively.

He will play a large part in Michigan State’s plan to rebuild after making this year’s Final Four in Indianapolis.

The Spartans lost three seniors, including another Indiana native Branden Dawson.

Swanigan averaged 22.6 points and 13.7 rebounds per game during his senior season.
