How to buy tickets for College Football Playoff National Championship game in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The countdown is on for the College Football Playoff National Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Right now, the cheapest tickets on StubHub, Ticketmaster are other websites are at least $1,000.

Ticket buyers can possibly spend a little less money through the College Football Playoffs website, but scoring them there is a gamble.

So, just how do tickets buyers get their hands on the soon-to-be hottest ticket in town? The College Football Playoff website offers three options.

The first is pricey premium package that gives ticket buyers access to more seating options, and pregame hospitality and VIP perks.

For seats only, go through Ticketmaster, which, according to College Football Playoffs website, is the only resale marketplace offering verified tickets.

To play it safe, just in case the teams playing aren’t favorites, ticket buyers can RSVP; however, that comes with a catch.

Say a favorite team is Alabama. Today, it will cost $200 just to reserve a spot to buy a ticket later at face value. But, the website says, if the favorite team doesn’t make it, the ticket buyers doesn’t get that money back.

Renny Harrison, owner of Carmel-based Fanfare Tickets, says for those who are willing, waiting might be a better option … and there’s a window to watch for.

“Certainly after those semifinal games, that night after the games, likely to see a surge in the pricing. If you’re willing to gamble a little bit and willing to purchase before the semifinal games occur, that may be the best time to buy,” Harrison said.

For those who can’t get a ticket or their favorite team doesn’t make it, there’s still a lot to do leading up to the game and on game day. The Indianapolis Host Committee has tons of events planned, and anyone can find them online.

The host committee calls the game a Super Bowl-caliber event. The committee estimates it will bring more than 100,000 people to the city and bring in more than $150 million.
