Yogi Ferrell speaks for first time about return
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana University junior guard Yogi Ferrell spoke to reporters for the first time on Monday since deciding to return for his senior season at IU.
He told 24-Hour News 8’s Amanda Maynard the chance to do something special next season is what lured him back.
“I want to do what everybody else wants, and that’s win a national championship,” said Ferrell. “I just think we can be such a special team. I feel like this is kinda similar to my freshman year, where we have every single piece we need to be one of the best teams in the country. I couldn’t miss out on that.”
NBA projections were mixed. Ferrell said half of the teams expected him to go somewhere in the second round of the draft, while others didn’t know where he’d fall.
“(Some) feedback I got back, be more of a point guard,” said Ferrell. “Mix it up, try not to dribble so much, or force too many things. To just go out there and make my teammates better first.”
Those national championship hopes might not be so far off. With Ferrell, Troy Williams and James Blackmon Jr. all returning, IU could be a legitimate Top 15 team to start the season.
