Multiple rounds of rain & storms with miserable air going toward the Fourth of July

Tue evening forecast – Jul 2, 2024

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We ended up having a nicer Tuesday than originally forecasted, but we’re still expecting miserable air and multiple rounds of rain and storms for the second half of this week.

This pattern could impact Fourth of July plans to an extent.

Tuesday night: Cloud cover and humidity values will increase tonight, which will make way for a warmer and muggy night. Lows will only fall into the low to mid 70s.

Wednesday: Rain and storm chances return to the forecast Wednesday starting with the potential for a few showers in the morning hours. Additional development will occur later in the afternoon hours as we deal with a jungle-like air mass due to miserable humidity levels and hotter temperatures.

Showers and storms look to continue into the nighttime hours mainly in southern Indiana. This will be because of the front stalling out Wednesday night there after it moves down from the north.

There is potential for strong to severe storms as a Slight Risk (level 2/5) is in place for over half of the state. Damaging winds will be the main concern, but some localized flooding could occur.

Highs will rise into the upper 80s, and with high dew point values over 70, heat index values will be near/over 100.

Fourth of July: Active weather persists into Thursday with showers and storms likely during the morning hours as the front retreats back north a little. Then, activity will be more on and off for the rest of the day. There will be the possibility of a few showers and storms Thursday night.

Isolated strong to severe storms are also possible Thursday with wind and hail the main concerns.

Highs will top out in the low to mid 80s with a cranked muggy meter remaining in place.

8-Day Forecast: More rain and storms will be possible at times Friday before we dry out this weekend. Humidity values won’t be as terrible this weekend, but still noticeable on the uncomfortable side with highs in the low to mid 80s. Storm chances return by late Sunday into early next week.
