Surgeon arrested in Arizona pleads not guilty to escape

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A former Lafayette surgeon accused of breaking free from his home detention and going on the run says he’s not guilty.

Gregory Konrath appeared in Miami County Superior Court via video Thursday and pleaded not guilty to escape.

Last summer, Konrath was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly plotting to murder his ex-wife. He was released on bond and was not allowed to contact his ex-wife or ex-girlfriend.

Konrath was rearrested a few days later, accused of violating the no-contact order. The attempted murder charge was dropped and as part of a plea deal, Konrath pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking.

His sentence included house arrest, but police say he cut off his tracking bracelet and took off on April 28. He was arrested two days later near Flagstaff, Arizona.
