Police: Teen was drunk when he hit bicyclists

NEW PALESTINE, Ind. (WISH) – Police in Hancock County say a 17-year-old boy who hit two bicyclists Tuesday night was driving drunk.

Police say the teen driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.28 percent, when he hit cyclists Carla McCloud and Amanda Wheeler.

According to WISH-TV’s partners at the Greenfield Daily Reporter, the accident happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 4300 block of West County Road 300S.

The teen’s car, a 2010 Hyundai Accent, struck both riders from behind, shattering the windshield, police said.

McCloud, 22, of New Palestine, died Wednesday afternoon after spending hours on life support.  Wheeler, 22, of Greenfield, remains in the hospital and is in stable condition.

The teen driver is expected to appear in court this week, at which time a judge will decide if he will remain at the detention center or be released.
