Gas-fed fire forces family of 6 from Fishers home
FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – A family of six is OK after their Fishers home went up in flames Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the 12000 block of Allisonville Road around 7 a.m. and found a fire burning outside of the house.
The family of six, two parents and four adult children, were able to safely escape after hearing the sound of smoke detectors.
Fire officials said one person had a “very minor injury.” The home also sustained damage as a result of the flames.
“It’s quite a bit of smoke damage inside the residence and some water damage, but most of the fire was on the exterior,” Captain John Mehling with the Fishers Fire Department said.
Mehling said firefighters discovered a gas leak below the meter they believed was feeding the fire. Vectren Energy delivery workers arrived at the scene of the fire and were able to shut off the gas to the home. No other homes were impacted, according to Mehling.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Fishers Fire Department, Noblesville Fire Department, Carmel Fire Department, and Fishers Police Department all responded to the scene of the fire.
