Burger King’s ‘Angriest Whopper’ comes on a red bun

MIAMI, FL (WCMH) – Burger King’s Angry Whopper just got a whole lot angrier.

On Thursday, March 31, the the fast food chain will start selling its new Angriest Whopper sandwich. It’s just like the popular angry Whopper with one addition: The bun has hot sauced baked right in.

Those hot sauce buns are also red hot themselves. Literally. That’s because the baked-in hot sauce makes the buns glow a bright red color.

“This alarmingly delicious burger is sure to disprove the commonly held belief that a sequel is never as good as the original,” Burger King said in a news release. “We’re combining the power of these past hits into a star-studded sandwich we think our guests will unanimously agree is the next must-eat burger.”

This is the second time Burger King has launched a sandwich with a colored bun. You might remember their Halloween Whopper sandwich from last year. The buns were black due to having A.1. sauce baked right in.

The sandwich was extremely popular, but led to the unfortunate #GreenPoop hashtag on social media. That’s because the food coloring on the bun was leading to green bowel movements, with shades ranging from neon to hunter green.

Burger King responded to the claims saying the coloring used to blacken the buns is “commonly used in the industry and within the safe and Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”

There’s no word if the new red buns on the Angriest Whopper sandwich will lead to any unexpected side effects, but the sandwich is sure to be a hot seller. After all, it’s also topped with onion petals, spicy angry sauce and jalapeños.
