Study: Women who work night shift may be at greater risk for heart disease

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A new study says women who work night shift may have a greater risk for heart disease.

The study led by researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, said they studied nurses who worked six to 14 years of irregular shifts. They found 15 to 16 percent were more likely to develop heart disease.

The study also looked over the medical histories of more than 189,000 women.

Irregular shifts were described as working at least three nights per month, in addition to other times of the day.

The study also found the risk for those who stopped working night shift went down.
