Thousands ‘March for Babies’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – About 3,000 people met at White River State Park for a Saturday morning walk for a cause.

The group took part in the annual March for Babies, a fundraiser for the March of Dimes.

2016’s walk is estimated to have raised $300,000 for research and March of Dimes programs aimed at giving babies a healthy start.

David Norris, board chairman for the Indiana March of Dimes, said, “The majority of the people here have been impacted, When we did the opening remarks and asked people to raise their hand if they’ve been impacted or if you know someone who has been impacted. So the majority of the people here have been impacted, but the cool thing too is a bunch of supporters.”

“People know how important it is to support the folks that you got a bunch of little ones running around here that are really happy and healthy. You see capes around here that say ‘Miracles Do Exist’. It’s really cool,” said Norris.

March for Babies is one of the organization’s two major fundraisers. The second major fundraiser is the Signature Chefs event that will take place on December 3, 2016.

The March of Dimes says premature birth is the number one issue impacting infant health in the world, citing more than 450,000 children are born prematurely each year and an average of 176 Hoosier babies are impacted each week.
