Vincennes student accused of attacking teacher waived to adult court

VINCENNES, Ind. (WISH) – The student who was detained last week in Vincennes, after allegedly attacking a teacher has been waived to adult court.

Vincennes Police Chief Luking reported Donavon Davis, 16, appeared in Superior Court for an initial hearing on Friday morning.

The Vincennes School Corporation Superintendent told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WTHI, last week that the incident happened on May 11 during after school hours. The Vincennes Police Department was called to the school around 4:30 p.m. on that date for reports of a teacher who had been assaulted. When officers arrived on scene they were directed to a classroom where they located a female teacher who had been badly beaten and was semiconscious.

Davis has been charged with robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and aggravated battery knowingly inflicting injury that creates a substantial risk of death. Davis was taken to the Knox County Jail with a bond set of $50,000.

The victim involved in this case is still recovering from the injuries she sustained. But, she has stated she wishes to return to teaching after she recovers.
