Columbus man arrested after stealing $600 worth of alcohol

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police have arrested a Columbus man after he stole hundreds of dollars of alcohol from a grocery store.

Police arrested Christopher Bryant, 30, Monday afternoon.

According to police, officers were sent to Kroger located at 3110 North National Road after reports of theft.

A store employee told police the suspect grabbed multiple bottles of liquor totaling nearly $600 and fled the store to a vehicle waiting.

Officers tracked down the vehicle shortly after in the 900 block of California Street. When speaking with the suspects in the vehicle, an officer spotted several bottles of liquor in the backseat. They said Bryant who was in the passenger seat was trying to hide a syringe. Bryant then fled the scene and was found hiding in a nearby shed and taken into custody at the Bartholomew County Jail.

He was placed on a 48 hour hold and faces the following preliminary charges:

  • Theft
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Criminal mischief
  • Possession of a legend drug injection device

The incident remains under investigation.
