Carrier, United Steelworkers reach agreement on benefits package
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) Carrier has reached an agreement with the United Steelworkers as 1,400 workers prepare to lose their jobs as part of Carrier’s move to Mexico.
In a statement sent by Carrier, Indianapolis employees will receive a benefits package as a result of the relocation.
Employees will get severance pay, six months of medical insurance, continued access to the company’s Employee Scholar Program for four years, the eligibility to receive a monthly bonus until the separation date.
Carrier said that employees will also be eligible for a lump sum payment as well as wage increases, pension improvements and other benefits as part of the extension of the labor contract.
In the statement, Carrier said they realize the impact this will have on the employees, families and the community.
