IMPD: Police shooting on city’s northwest side

Man in critical condition after police shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man is in critical condition after a police shooting on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

At 6:45 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a welfare check in the 4500 block of Woodland Drive. Police say an elderly woman pushed an emergency alert button after a man threatened to kill her.

IMPD stated that they have been to this address before and they were aware of the people there when they responded to the call.

When officers arrived to the scene, they encountered an adult man who brandished a machete and made threats towards police. Swat was called to the scene shortly after.

At 9:15 p.m., officers attempted to use non-lethal weapons on the suspect before shooting him with firearms. The suspect was critically wounded by a gunshot and transported to a local hospital.
