Lisa Loeb’s guitar found by bar owner after a ‘conversation’

Musician Lisa Loeb’s stolen guitar found

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A local bar owner found famed musician Lisa Loeb’s stolen guitar when he saw a man walking by his bar with a case matching the photo the singer shared on social media.

Her crew was packing up after the show outside the Conrad Hotel in downtown Indianapolis after a show in Hendricks County Monday night.

After she put out an acoustic APB on X, in a now-deleted post, a local bar owner spotted a man walking in front of his establishment with the same guitar case he saw in Lisa Loeb’s post.

Joel Reitz co-owns the O’Reilly Irish Bar and Restaurant. He said he saw a ‘disheveled’ man walking on the street with the guitar case he recognized from Loeb’s post.

O’Reilly’s is on South Pennsylvania Street, just a few blocks away from the Conrad Hotel.

Reitz says after a drama-free conversation with the man and a couple of requests, the man gave the guitar to him.

“I followed the gentleman about two blocks after asking him about two or three times to give me the guitar. It’s stolen, but he did,” Reitz said. “He relinquished it to me.”

The police picked up the guitar, as it was stolen property. Loeb later shared on Instagram that the guitar was already on the way back to her after IRC Music shipped it out.

Reitz said he wants to be a steward for the Indianapolis community.

“Unfortunately things like that happen and this person was down on his luck and a little disheveled,” Reitz said. “I did ask him to give it back to me because it did not belong to him and it was stolen and he did, after a couple of requests he did give it back to me.”

Reitz said ultimately he wants to help anyone who needs it.

“It’s satisfying to help other people. No matter what,” Reitz said. “Getting a world-famous person her guitar back or the man who took it, giving him something. It’s rewarding.”

Loeb thanked everyone who helped return the guitar, starting with Reitz.

We appreciate all of you. Thanks for your concern! The fellow who took it in the first place was probably just down on his luck and I wish him well too.
