Vehicle pursuit ends with shots fired, suspect apprehended

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in LaGrange County.

According to ISP, around 3:30 p.m. a van driven by Cesar Felipe Jaramillo-Moreno, 23, Goshen, was traveling east on County Road 600 South near County Road 600 West near Topeka at a high rate of speed.

Investigators said officers from the LaGrange Police Department deployed stop sticks in an attempt to slow Jaramillo-Moreno down. During that attempt, an officer feared for his safety and fired several shots at Jaramillo-Moreno’s vehicle, according to ISP.

Jaramillo-Moreno was not struck by gunfire, but was eventually subdued with a taser deployed by officers.

ISP has not said if the shots fired towards Jaramillo-Moreno occurred while he was still inside the vehicle and moving or if the vehicle stopped. It’s also not clear at what point the tazer was deployed.

Jaramillo-Moreno was taken to a hospital for evaluation but has since been taken to the LaGrange County Jail.

No other information, including possible charges, has been released law enforcement.
