Local companies looking to hire thousands

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The west side Chamber of Commerce hosted a large job fair on Wednesday.

More than 20 companies like Wal-Mart, Honda, Coca-Cola, and Kroger are hoping to find employees.

Lowe’s will also begin its search for more than 1,000 workers. Last month, the company opened a new call center at West 71st Street and Interstate 465.

Indianapolis leaders say it’s a big boost for the west side.

“They can raise their families, they can make sure that they can pay their bills, they can help sustain life better and that makes the community better. They can do the improvements to their homes that need to be done,” Janice McHenry, City-County Councillor of District 6, said.

The job fair is at the Pike Peforming Arts Center at Pike High School on Zionsville Road.

The fair runs until 2 p.m. Wednesday.
