Suspect in IMPD officer’s death says police used excessive force
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man police say killed an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer on July, 5, 2014 has filed a lawsuit against the city and IMPD for police excessive force.
According to the lawsuit filed on Jan. 11, Major Davis Jr. claims IMPD officers who responded to the scene of the report of shots fired used excessive force by shooting Davis in the back of the head, abdomen and back.

The suit was filed against Mayor Joseph Hogsett, Former IMPD Chief of Police Richard Hite and IMPD officer Perry Renn, who lost his life that night. A second officer is also included in the suit.
Davis, Jr. is accused of shooting IMPD Officer Perry Renn to death on July 5, 2014. Davis was also shot and critically wounded by Officer Renn, but survived.
In the suit Davis says he was shot “all at close range while unarmed.” The suit goes on to say that Davis had his hands in plan sight while he was speaking with officers and as he was being cooperative with officers officers used excessive force and started shooting Davis.
Davis is now seeking compensation for damages and pain he is suffering from. Including headaches, neurological problems, being confined in a wheel chair and digestive problems from being shot by IMPD officers.
Davis is seeking $2.3 million against the defendants.
