Evansville creates ‘virtual tip jar’

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Evansville’s Economic Improvement District has created a virtual tip jar to support service industry employees. The organization says the funds will help benefit employees who have been laid off, furloughed, or seen a reduction in their work hours amid the coronavirus pandemic.

EID President Josh Armstrong says the relationships between consumers and the people who cut their hair, make their coffee, or serve their food are important to consumers.

“Service industry employees play a vital role in the vibrancy and success of downtown Evansville,” said Armstrong. “Our organization’s vision includes our being a resilient neighborhood which cares for its own. Even though our residents and visitors are currently unable to dine in our restaurants or visit our entertainment venues, they can show their support through the virtual tip jar.”

The EID is encouraging service industry employees to sign up on the organization’s website.
