Indy 500 may allow carry-out alcohol
INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI) – The Indianapolis 500 celebrates its 100th year in the running and a Lafayette state senator is part of the celebration.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway approached Republican State Sen. Ron Alting this summer to seek help to allow the sale of alcohol in a collector’s item bottle.
Alting is trying to pass a bill that will allow carry-out alcohol, but the sale will only be allowed before the end of the race.
The bill passed through committee unanimously at the Indiana Statehouse Wednesday.
But the bill will need to be passed soon as the race is approaching.
Alting said it’s honor to be part of something that honors the race.
“It’s a real honor to be just a little bit of a part of the 100th running of the Indianapolis motor speed way,” said Alting.
He said there is language in the bill that, should it pass, it will become effective immediately.
