Paragon Medical expanding orthopedics device facility in Kosciusko County
PIERCETON, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Kosciusko County-based Paragon Medical has broken ground on a 34,000-square-foot addition to its manufacturing plant in the town of Pierceton. The medical device maker, which supports the county’s orthopedics industry, says it will initially invest $16 million on this project with plans to invest an additional $19 million over the next five years.
The company says when the new space is fully operational, it will support 15 new employees.
Paragon says the additional space will be used for its 3D printing, inspection, and support equipment that will enable it to vertically integrate the entire additive manufacturing process. Paragon says with additive manufacturing, which is also referred to as 3D printing, medical parts such as implants can be manufactured so they are stronger, lighter, and support more complex designs.
“Additive manufacturing is integral to the future of medical manufacturing,” said Simon Newman, CEO of MW Industries, Paragon Medical’s parent company. “This new facility will allow us to provide industry-leading technology and processes for metal additive manufacturing. We’ll be able to produce lighter, more complex medical parts faster, helping our customers provide solutions that advance the entire healthcare industry.”
The company says the expansion will focus on manufacturing porous titanium implants and will eventually expand into additional metals and polymers for various medical device applications.
Paragon Medical’s new additive manufacturing center is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2022.
