Neighbor: Ft. Wayne homeowner missing for weeks
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a body found in a closet Saturday afternoon.
According to police spokesperson Michael Joyner, a Fort Wayne Community Correctional officer was doing a home visit for a woman, and while talking to her and another man he noticed a foul odor. Questioning led him to go into the upstairs bedroom where he found an adult body in the closet, Joyner said.
Officers were called just after 1:30 p.m. to 216 W. Woodland Ave., which is west of Harrison Street, according to WISH-TV News sister station WANE News.
According to a neighbor who lives across the street, three adults lived in the home including the homeowner and a couple. A neighbor saw police take the couple in for questioning and said he hasn’t seen the homeowner for weeks. The neighbor claimed the couple told him the homeowner was having surgery. He said that police had been to the home several times.
At this time, police do not know the gender or the age of the person who died. Prosecutors are working with detectives to get a search warrant that would allow them back into the home.
An autopsy will be performed by the Allen County Coroner’s office to determine the cause and manner of death. Meanwhile, no arrests have been made.
