Man dead, woman hurt in shooting at gas station on south side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man is dead and a woman was injured in a shooting Sunday night on the city’s south side, police say.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department went to a report of a person shot at 10:22 p.m. Sunday at a Marathon gas station in the 1500 block of West Thompson Road near the intersection with South Harding Street.

Police arrived and located a man and a woman who had been shot. Initially, police had no information on their conditions.

The man, identified Jan. 10 as Devan Dungan, 26, died before he could be taken to hospital. IMPD officers confirmed at the crime scene that the woman, who was later identified by News 8 as Courtney Hall, was shot in the arm and taken to Eskenazi Hospital. She was in stable condition on Monday, according to police.

A person of interest is in custody, IMPD says.

A witness at the scene who said he was the woman’s father told News 8 that a man tried to rob and carjack his daughter and was shot by a bystander. IMPD has not confirmed that report.
