Downtown Indy gets spring-ready with Mulch Madness cleanup event

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — As warmer weather approaches, Hoosiers are preparing for spring with a volunteer clean-up event.

The Mulch Madness volunteer clean-up is set to take place on the southwest quadrant of Monument Circle Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Volunteers will work hard to mulch flower beds and prepare the area for the shift from winter to spring and summer.

Taylor Shaffer, CEO and President of Downtown Indy, Inc. organized the event.

Shaffer says that the downtown area serves as the front door to the city for many visitors and cleanup efforts have been underway to ensure that downtown Indianapolis is ready to welcome guests.

“Spring through fall tends to be prime event season and you would be hard-pressed to walk into the mile square or visit one of our public spaces, one of our venues on any given day, and not have interesting exciting events happening…and we want to ensure downtown is ready to welcome those visitors.”

Shaffer says she hopes the event will ensure that the downtown area is ready to welcome visitors, showcase the city’s beauty during the upcoming event seasons, and unite the community to support a common cause.
