Candlelight vigil held for woman killed in White River State Park 4 years ago

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Monday marks four years since a woman was killed at the White River State Park. Indiana State Police officers and Sherese A. Bingham’s family held a candlelight vigil in her honor.

“Sherese Walker-[Bingham], I’m not going to give up until we get them for doing what they did to you,” Bingham’s brother, Keith Walker said.

Bingham was killed on Dec. 12, 2012 while walking her dogs through the park. Police are still looking for her killer.

Detectives said Bingham took her two German Shepherds for a walk along the canal. The dogs protected her so much, medics had to call for backup before reaching her body.

“In all the years that she had those dogs, I couldn’t even get near,” Walker said. “It had to be somebody that knew her close, and that person knows who it is.”

Police said the shooter used Bingham’s handgun. They said the wound to Bingham’s chest and interviews with her loved ones indicate she did not kill herself.

Detectives believe the shooter knew Bingham. Her husband was arrested, but prosecutors dropped charges. On Monday, 24-Hour News 8 reached out to his attorney, who had no comment.

Indiana State Police also appeared at the site Monday night. “The lead detective on this, I spoke with him today, and it’s haunted him day and night, especially this time of year.,” ISP Sgt. Rich Myers said.

It’s a case that’s also haunted her family, who is determined to give her justice. “If it’s only me standing, I’m not going to give up, baby sister,” Walker said. “You got me all the way.”
