Convicted child killer arrested at Indy library

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A recently-released child killer and sex offender was arrested in Indianapolis.

Richard Dobeski, 67, was released from prison July 16.

He was arrested Thursday afternoon at Central Library in Indianapolis by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities in LaPorte County said that an arrest warrant was issued for Dobeski and that he will be extradited to face four felony counts for failure to register.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office released this statement:

After the release of Dobeski last week, law enforcement officials across the state of Indiana quickly began to communicate with one another regarding the locations of Dobeski.  The information was passed amongst several different sheriff’s offices across the state of Indiana who maintain their Sex and Violent Offender Registries for their respective counties.”

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office also says that Dobeski will face charges in Marion County.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office released this statement:

After consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and further review and deliberation, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office determined that this was the appropriate time to arrest Mr. Dobeski.”

Dobeski was sentenced for the murder of two children in the 1960s, then released in 2003. His sentence was reduced due to good behavior.

In 2008, he was convicted of child molestation in LaPorte County

According to the The Times of Northwest IndianaDobeski took a bus to Indianapolis after a Gary homeless shelter closed the day before.

Dobeski has an initial hearing set for Monday.
