INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Ivy Tech Community College has named Dr. Mia Johnson interim chancellor for its Anderson campus. The college says Johnson will begin the role on Monday and plans are in place for a national search for a permanent chancellor this fall.

Johnson succeeds Dr. Jim Willey, who announced his retirement in May.

“We are confident in Mia’s ability to lead and serve as the interim chancellor, and will stay committed to the process of running a thorough national search that will generate a highly qualified group of finalists,” said Ivy Tech Community College President Sue Ellspermann. “The search process does include listening sessions with faculty, staff and community members designed to hear from our stakeholders on what qualities they are looking for in the next chancellor for the Anderson Campus.”

Ellspermann says the pandemic has been pushed the college’s timeline back, but it plans to have the new chancellor in place by January.

“I am thrilled to be chosen to serve in the Anderson community during this time of transition for the campus,” said Johnson. “Having the opportunity to take on this leadership role and expand my experience with the College will be invaluable and I look forward to working with the amazing faculty and staff at the Anderson campus.”

The college says Johnson has served in many roles at Ivy Tech, including vice chancellor for academic affairs at its Muncie campus.

In addition, Johnson is an associate professor of psychology and human services at Ivy Tech and has been with the college for more than 12 years. Her tenure with Ivy Tech has also included assistant registrar, regional registrar, human services faculty, program chair, department chair, and dean.
