Kroger opening 2nd Indy Marketplace store Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Thanksgiving is all about tradition, but there are some new options in central Indiana that could change your grocery shopping routine this year.

Kroger is opening its second Kroger Marketplace store in central Indiana, at 5350 East Thompson Road. It’s Kroger, plus more, similar to a Meijer or Walmart store. Store executives say it allows Kroger loyalists to have a one-stop shop for most shopping needs. The new store opens Thursday, Nov. 19 at 8 a.m. Five more Kroger Marketplace stores are set to open in Indianapolis through 2017.

But even if you love Kroger, you don’t even have to step into a store this Thanksgiving if you don’t want to and you can still get all the groceries you need. That’s because of Kroger’s online ordering feature. It’s available at eight central Indiana locations including those in Indianapolis, Greenwood, Avon, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, and Carmel. Using the Kroger web site, you put together your grocery list and they pay for the items and pick them up curbside. Your first three orders are free. After that the cost is $4.95.

Kroger isn’t the only company offering online ordering tools. Instacart is growing in popularity in Indianapolis. That service will go shopping for you at Whole Foods, Marsh, Georgetown Market, or Costco and then deliver your items right to your door all for six bucks or less. You don’t need a Costco membership for Instacart to shop there for you.

And even the most inexperienced host could probably pull of Thanksgiving with all the help out there these days. Instacart provides a ‘Lists & Recipes’ tab that allows shoppers to order ingredients they need for a recipe with just one click.

There’s also Green BEAN Delivery and Pea Pod available in central Indiana.
