Man shot, killed on city’s southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said a man was shot and killed on the southeast side Monday night. Investigators said the shooting appears to be self-defense at this point.

It happened just after 11 p.m. in the 1500 block of Villa Avenue, an area near Pleasant Run Parkway and Keystone Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a man on a front porch who had been shot. Crews took him to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, but he died at the hospital.

An online police report said officers were responding to a burglary in progress when they found the man shot. IMPD said it appears an occupant in the home shot a burglary suspect, but the investigation is still ongoing. Officers on scene told 24-Hour News 8 that two people — a man and a woman — were inside the home when officers arrived.

Police have not released much information about the man who died, but the police report said he was 26 years old.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide if the shooter will face any charges.
