Michael Vick shares a message of hope and redemption with teenagers
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A crowd of teens and adults crowded New Beginnings Church on Tuesday evening. Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick addressed the crowd.
At one time, many referred to Vick as the face of the NFL. That was until 2007, when his career came to a stop. During that year he pleaded guilty for his role in a dog fighting ring. He would spend the next 21 months in federal prison.
After his release, Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles where he resumed his football career. Vick shared with the crowd his pitfalls and triumphs. He even talked about a time he almost lost it all while in high school.
“I got in trouble my junior year, won’t tell you what happened. It was petty, I almost risked everything. I got caught stealing a pack of cookies and had $20 dollars in my pocket,” said Vick.
After his speech, Vick took questions from Pastor James Jackson at New Beginnings. Vick’s speech comes at a critical time in the city. Ten teens under the age of 18 have been killed in the city this year, and eight teens this year have been charged with murder.
“The number one goal is that Jesus Christ becomes Lord and Savior of their life, and they would understand and no matter what you are facing, you can win under the lights,” said Youth Pastor Nate King.
