One dead following liquor store robbery, police name victim

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person is dead following an early morning liquor store robbery.

Police have since named the victim in the deadly robbery as 70-year-old Joseph Klein.

The fatal robbery happened at Allied Liquor in the 5200 block of East 38th Street just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to police, three men in dark clothes came into the store and pointed the gun to the head of one of the employees.

Police say that three employees were in the store at the time of robbery.

Klein was shot several times and was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.  However, Klein later died as a result of the shooting.

People in the area describe Klein as a good businessman who was protective over his store.

“He was a good business owner. It’s one of the best liquor stores around here as far as quality goes around here,” said Dwayne Tyler.

Perry X added, “That touches my heart. These generations these day have no respect for the elderly. That’s a bad thing. That’s not good at all.”

Police said that the three suspects fled the scene on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

The investigation in this deadly incident is ongoing.
