Outrun the Sun and raise awareness for cancer
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – To raise awareness for melanoma and other skin cancer, people took part in a special race Saturday.
Outrun the Sun is a 5 mile run and walk that took place at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park.
The event is scheduled for the evening, when the sun is less intense.
Organizers say money raised will go to fund research on skin cancer.
“Education is key when it comes to Melanoma, prevention is key. If we can prevent more cases then we won’t have to deal with melanoma, as far as treatment and other therapies are concerned,” Anita Day said. “And so we want to prevent skin cancer all together and we also want to fund research so that people will have many treatment options at their fingertips.”
24-Hour News 8’s Drew Blair was the emcee for the event and also ran in the race.
