Second Indiana child dies from flu
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A second Indiana child has died from the flu this season, according to new data released by the Indiana Department of Health.
The child was between the ages of 6 months and 23 months, according to Friday’s update to the state’s flu dashboard.
The online update does not provide additional details on the death, including the child’s gender, location, or date of death.
The state announced 22 people have died in Indiana from flu-related illnesses this season, an increase of eight from the previous week.
No single county has reported more than five flu deaths so far.
Indiana had recorded 73 total flu deaths at this same point in the last flu season (2022-2023) before ending the year with 270 deaths.
The CDC reported Friday that flu virus activity increased slightly in Indiana last week, but remained in the ‘high’ category.
