Teachers suspended after alleged chats leak at Rhode Island school
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) – Faculty members at Blackstone Valley Prep have been suspended and an internal investigation is underway after derogatory comments, purportedly written by teachers, were leaked, school officials confirmed for WISH-TV’s sister station WPRI Tuesday.
The controversy started with Tweets sent by students which read, “So, today at school the teachers’ personal group chats got leaked.”
Students then began sharing screenshots of the messages. One of them was retweeted more than 80 times.
The photos show private messages allegedly written by teachers about students.
They include derogatory slurs, profanities, and startling comments including, “Man, I wish we could hit them.” and “He is failing five classes, [expletive] idiot.”
Blackstone Valley Prep administration sent Eyewitness News a statement about the incident.
We are taking immediate action to address the situation. An internal review is being conducted and will continue through the week. At this time, BVP has suspended staff members pending the completion of the investigation.”
