Thursday’s business headlines
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Here’s a look at Thursday’s business headlines.
Salesforce
Fifty women are suing Salesforce alleging the company profited by helping Backpage to engage in sex trafficking.
The women, referred to only as anonymous Jane Does, identify themselves as survivors of sex trafficking, rape and abuse – facilitated through Backpage.
A Salesforce spokesperson said the company doesn’t comment on pending litigation but added: “we are deeply committed to the ethical and humane use of our products and take these allegations seriously.”
Google and President Trump
President Trump met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai to discuss “political fairness” and China.
Pichai is in Washington to address Google’s work in China, where it’s reportedly planning a censored search engine that would comply with the Chinese government’s strict laws for internet use.
Trump announced the meeting after it was over in a tweet and said it went well.
NAFTA
The Trump administration spent more than a year working through high-stakes, strained negotiations for a new North American Free Trade Agreement but that was just the beginning.
The most arduous part still remains: selling the deal to a divided Congress.
CNN says some Democrats say it will take months to apprive it.
The deal, as it stands, would have big implications for the agriculture and auto industry.
Apple patents
The U.S. will ban certain iPhones from entering the country after the Qualcomm ruling.
