Virtual reality headset takes video games to new level

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Facebook-owned virtual reality firm is trending on social media, for what they hope will be the future of video games.

Oculus announced its “Rift” virtual reality headset Thursday.

“In virtual reality, you are going to find yourself reminding your brain that this is not real,” Oculus Chief Executive Brendan Iribe said during a media event at a studio space in San Francisco.

The company also announced a partnership with Microsoft. This means the headset will come with an Xbox controller.

Iribe said they’re trying to deliver on the dream of virtual reality. He said it is powerful because it lets us experience anything, anywhere.

“You’ll be able to slip on a pair of Oculus goggles and you’ll be able to teleport to different worlds. For the first time we will finally be inside of the game,” Iribe said.

The company also announced several virtual reality games.

Oculus said the headset will ship early next year.
