Women prisoners train service dogs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indiana Women’s Prison celebrated another graduation with service dogs on Thursday.

The prison has been graduating service dogs since 2003, for the Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN).

“Two children who are recipients of the service dogs tonight typically do not connect socially with others.  Amazingly in a two week preparation period with the handler, they have totally bonded with cues to guiding their new comrade,” commented Sally Irvin, Founder and ICAN Program Director.

The facility hold two graduations a year, or once every six months. On Thursday, the organization placed four service dogs with new clients.
