Zionsville murder suspect now charged for shooting at IMPD headquarters
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry has officially charged a man who is believed to have fired shots at two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department headquarters. Police also say the suspect fired shots at officers during a SWAT standoff.
Damoine Wilcoxson is charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal recklessness. The charges stemmed from the shooting at IMPD North District headquarters on Oct. 12, a shooting at the IMPD Northwest District headquarters on Oct. 4 and the SWAT standoff at Wilcoxson’s apartment on Oct. 21.
Police say DNA and shell casings from the shooting scenes linked Wilcoxson to the crimes.
According to court documents, officers discovered threatening notes at the scene of the Oct. 4 shooting. The notes references to “yahuah” and “yahusha.” The notes include threats and profanity, including one that read in part, “I want a 100,0000 (sic) by tomorrow you mf’s will pay white kids white (expletive) must die Red people we know the truth.”
The prosecutor’s office also said Wilcoxson made a number of social media posts in October as Frank Lucas using the same rhetoric found in the notes.
The two headquarters buildings were shot at more than 30 times in the overnight hours. Police found shell casings stamped with FC 223 REM.
At the scene of the Oct. 13 shooting, police discovered a number of casings that appeared to have been fired from the same firearm with the same FC 223 REM. stamping. More notes were also discovered. Court records state that IMPD said the writing from both sets of notes was from the same individual. ISP lab testing confirmed the casings matched all three of the scenes.
A SWAT team went to the 4300 block of Mill View Court to arrest Wilcoxson. When officers attempted to enter the apartment, Wilcoxson fired several shots at officers. Wilcoxson had told officers a baby was inside of the apartment. IMPD officers did not fire their weapons during the SWAT standoff. Wilcoxson eventually exited the apartment, baby in one hand and a phone in the other.
Authorities in Boone County have also charged Wilcoxson with the fatal Sept. 28 shooting of 82-year-old John Clements. The charges come as a result of an investigation by Zionsville Police Department, IMPD, the Indiana State Police and the FBI.
Wilcoxson is currently being held in the Boone County Jail. An initial hearing for the crimes in Marion County has not been set.
