World War II vet honored, receives medals

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A veteran who served in World War II was honored on Sunday, which is also his birthday.

Ben Bennett is 95 years old and lived thousands of Sundays in his life, but this Sunday will be one he never forgets.

Bennett served five campaigns during World War II, but he never received all the medals he earned. On Sunday he got his medals.

24-Hour News 8 asked Bennett how he felt.

“Overwhelmed.  I can’t believe people turned out like this,” said Bennett. “I can’t believe the thank yous I’m getting. It’s great. It’s wonderful.”

Bennett served his campaigns in the signal corps, which provides communications and information systems of troops in the field.
