County will require registration of off-road vehicles

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) – Off-road vehicle operators in one central Indiana county could face fines if they damage rural roads under an ordinance approved by the county’s commissioners.

The Boone County ordinance requiring a $25 registration fee takes effect Jan. 1.

County Highway Engineer Craig Parks says the gravel roads take a beating from the ORVs says the registration fees won’t come close to the expense of grading the roads on a weekly basis to repair them.

The Lebanon Reporter reports the ordinance approved this week allows the use of off-road vehicles on paved and unpaved roads as well as in rights of way. It says about 44 other Indiana counties have similar ordinances.
