Donald Trump Jr. makes appearance at restaurant in Covington

COVINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Donald Trump Junior made an appearance Thursday at a restaurant in a small town to vouch for his dad in the presidential race. The Indiana primary is just less than a week away.

He stood before before a small crowd of about 30 people at Beef House restaurant in Covington late Thursday afternoon.

Wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans, Donald Jr. said he just got back from turkey hunting with friends.

“I always like to talk about the outdoors because it’s also what kept me out of a lot of other trouble i could have gotten into growing up in the city,” he said.

Donald Jr. is Trump’s oldest son. He is a business man with five kids all under the age of eight.

At the restaurant, he talked with supporters and opened up about his life at home, at work, and on the campaign trail.

“When you think of the opposition my father’s facing, they’re mathematically eliminated. If everyone voted for them they still can’t get there,” he said.

This appearance comes just one day after being called onto the big stage by his father at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

Donald Jr. said you never know what to expect. His dad is full of surprises.

“I just wanted to watch the Bobby Knight thing last night. I just figured that would be cool to be part of it. But then my father called me up in front of everybody unbeknownst to me I just went along with it,” he laughed.

Supporters, like Robin Jordan can’t help but to describe the atmosphere of the event as Indiana hospitality.

“It was just like talking to a friend just back and forth just very simple and straight forward and truthful I believe,” said Jordan.

Jordan said she has never been to anything like this before.

She wanted to take advantage of the opportunity by asking a question that got many people laughing.

“We as parents often times embarrassed our children, and I asked him if he ever felt stuffing a sock in his dad’s mouth. I enjoyed his answer there, I mean he stands true to his dad as he should you know,” she said.

Donald Trump Jr. responded by saying when it comes to his dad talking about issues facing the country, he’s supportive.

He said he’s glad someone has the guts to say things that need to be said, even knowing they might upset people.
